कर्म नहीं, अंतरलेखक राज फुलवरेपुराने समय की बात है। हरे-भरे खेतों, मिट्टी की सोंधी खुशबू और शांत वातावरण से भरा एक छोटा-सा गाँव था— अमलपुर। गाँव बहुत बड़ा नहीं था, पर वहाँ के लोग सरल हृदय, धार्मिक और परंपराओं से जुड़े हुए थे। गाँव के केंद्र में शीतल नदी के किनारे एक प्राचीन शिव-मंदिर था। कहते हैं कि वह मंदिर सैकड़ों साल पुराना था, जिसकी दीवारों पर समय की खरोंचें तो थीं, पर भक्ति का रंग आज भी ताज़ा था।यही मंदिर गाँव की आत्मा था, और इस मंदिर की सेवा में दो मित्र वर्षो से लगे थे— सत्यनारायण और हरिदत्त।
