સાંજનો સમય હતો. ગામની વાડીમાં બાવળનાં ઝાડ નીચે વૃદ્ધ રમેશભાઈ અને તેમની પત્ની જશોદાબેન બેઠા હતાં. આંખોમાં આશા અને ચિંતા બંને દેખાતાં હતાં. દીકરો મહેશ બે વર્ષ પહેલાં શહેર કામ માટે ગયો હતો. ફોન પર વાત થઈ જતી, પૈસા પણ મોકલતો, પણ ઘર ખાલી લાગતું.જશોદાબેન:"રમેશજી, એ મહેશને કહો ને, હવે પાછો આવી જાય. ખેતરની માટી સુકાઈ રહી છે, હાથમાં જોર નથી રહ્યું. એના વગર ગામડું સુનસાન લાગે છે."રમેશભાઈ:"હા, જશોદા, હું પણ એ જ વિચારું છું. પણ એનો જીવ ક્યાં માનશે? શહેરની ચમકમાં પડી ગયો છે."---શહેરની દોડધામશહેરમાં મહેશ મજૂરી કરતો હતો. દિવસભર કન્સ્ટ્રક્શન સાઈટ પર કામ, ધૂળમાં ભીનાં કપડાં, પગ થાકી
