Sagar lives in Nagpur, India, with his family, which includes his parents, two brothers, and a younger sister. He is an 8th-grade student at Vidya Vikas School. One day, on his way home, he finds a nearly dead rose plant discarded near a garbage bin. Despite its poor condition, Sagar feels a strong urge to save it, believing it could bloom and contribute positively to the environment. When a sweeper attempts to throw the plant away, Sagar pleads with him to let him take it instead. The sweeper is skeptical, arguing that the plant has no life and suggesting Sagar buy a new one. However, Sagar convinces him to hand over the plant, hoping to revive it despite the sweeper's doubts. As Sagar walks home, he reflects on the sweeper's words and worries about what others might think if the plant doesn't survive. Nevertheless, he is determined to give it a chance and decides to plant it near the banks of the Nag River, which flows through his city.
