Disturbed

(An investigative, romantic and psychological thriller)

By

Kotra Siva Rama Krishna

“No, I have not seen her. I just have heard the voice.” Trying to remember exactly how and what I have heard that by clipping my inner lip between my teeth frames for few seconds and then I am saying again. “But the voice is so clear. I heard it so clear.”

“I must say you have imagined all that Dazzle. None of that is true in my opinion.”

“Viola is also saying the same thing.”

“What else anyone does say? Whoever has common sense says only that.”

“So it is only I who is having no common sense at all.” George’s statement caused lot of anger in me.

George is laughing now. “I don’t mean it like that. But you think yourself carefully. You too come to an opinion like that.” Leaning back in the chair George said.

I am thinking furiously now. There is a point in what George has said also. But I have heard that voice so clear. Aunt said it like that. Nova’s late husband confirmed it.

“One thing I can say for sure Dazzle. There is something very strange in all of this that we cannot understand. First your father wanted to say something so desperately but he died without saying that at all. Now you are imagining like this.”

I am looking into the face of George. “You are right.”

“Your life is in more danger than me also. In fact I am thinking there may be a link with the murder attempt on me and your life also.”

“How that would be so? There are so many enemies to us. Many of our competitors don’t like your working for our organization. They tried to drag you away from us. You never have bent to that. They may be trying to get rid of you in this way.” I am saying now. “Without you our companies cannot be competitors to them. They can be profited like that.”

George nodded his head in negation. “It is not so Dazzle. Of course we are having enemies. But till now no one ever tried this type of thing on me. Why now? No Dazzle. Something…something that you and I cannot understand easily and which may prove quite dangerous if neglected.”

I am interested in hearing George. He is once again proving himself for the way of his specialized thinking.

“George, what should we do now?” looking into his face I am asking. “I just do in the way you want me to do.”

“I think over it Dazzle. I do tell you what should be done in this regard. Just leave me completely free for the rest of this day. By tomorrow I shall be with an idea for this.” it appears to me that he indirectly wants me to go out and I am feeling anger inside.

I got off from the sofa and saying now. “Alright George. I am going now. But I want to make one thing quite clear to you.” I paused for a moment to give more intensity to what I am going to say. “I am going to make you my man. Not just that, I do make you marry me. Nothing on the earth stops that.” I turned back and am walking towards the doorsill.  I am not hearing anything or any movement. So desperately I want to see the expression in the face of George then but with difficulty I restrained myself.

“Don’t even try to observe the thoughts. Just leave them like that. Remember they are just thoughts and nothing else. They cannot do any harm to you.”

I am comfortably seated in the sofa and remembering what Viola often says to me when it comes to thoughts.

“Don’t worry about the feelings either. Just let the feelings come and envelop you. Let the feelings stay as long as they want. Feelings also are as harmless as thoughts.”

Once overwhelmed by thoughts regarding George and present happenings in my life, I made myself quite comfortably in the sofa in my hall and am trying to implement the technique Viola said to me while remembering what she often says. It appears difficult and irritating in the beginning, but if we persist it really works.

“Dazzle.” I heard Viola’s voice and opened my eyes.

I am seeing now Viola before me and there is a sort of serious expression on her face.

“I am just trying to practice the technique you often say Ola. It is really working. Thank you.” I am feeling an inner happiness.

“Did you go to that George’s house Dazzle?” as if she did not hear what I said, Viola asked me.

“Yes, I did.” I am saying. “You have got clairvoyance Ola. Through which you knew it I think.”

“I phoned to your cell. It is switched off. Then I phoned to Nova and she gave the information.” The serious expression on Viola’s face is still continuing like that. When she took Nova’s phone number I cannot understand.

“Oh, its not clairvoyance. Its alright. But what is wrong in it? Why you are serious like this?” looking straight into her face I am asking. “Just tell me what really is bothering you Ola.”

Viola came straight and slumped herself beside me on the sofa. “Why have you gone there Dazzle? He is just an employee in your organization and you know your status. What your competitors and other business people think?”

“Oh, don’t tell me all that crap again and again. Just because of my overwhelming richness and status, am I banned from all other things that an ordinary girl can enjoy?” I am feeling intense anger.

“That means you went to George’s home only for enjoyment?”

“What is wrong if I go for enjoyment or something similar? You know that I am in love with George.” With firmness in my voice I said.

“Try to understand Dazzle. Just try to understand. He is nearly twenty years older to you. How do you marry him? How you are thinking that you enjoy your life with him?” looking straight into my eyes Viola said.

“That is my problem Ola. I do only marry George. Whatever may be the consequences of it, I am not going to swerve or change my decision.” I am feeling surprise. It is indeed very first time that I curtly cut off Viola like that. But I am not feeling bad at all. Because I do love George that much. The other thing that surprises me is why Viola changed her version. In before she supported me and offered help also.

Voila hissed out heavily. “I can understand why do you bent upon like that to marry only George.” It is surprising to me that Viola does not appear hurt even I that bluntly expressed my opinion.

“Tell, I am curious to hear.” Really I am feeling curious to hear what Viola is going to say.

“You are mainly concerned with two things here Dazzle. You are worrying that you cannot manage all your businesses without the help of George. For successful running of your businesses George is must. To ensure that George bind only with your organizations all the time you are wishing to marry him.”

“Appearing reasonable. What is the next one?” a smile climbed onto my lips.

“You have so accustomed to your father Dazzle. His dying like that is big deficiency to you indeed. Somehow or other you want that to be fulfilled. George would not be just a husband and lover to you but also like a father.”

I breathed deeply and hissed out. “I cannot comment on this. May be you are right on this also.”

There is silence in between us both. It is I who broke it first. “I forgot to tell you the most important thing here. Indeed that was the reason for my going to George on this day.”

“Tell me what it is?” there came curiosity into the face of Viola.

“Someone tried to kill him. He escaped from that very narrowly.”

“What?  Is this is true?” suddenly frowns gathered on the forehead of Viola.

“Yes it is true.” I am explaining to her what happened. “I have given a police complaint also.”

“Who would have tried such type of a thing on him?” there is lot of concern in the voice of Viola

“We are having enough enemies. I just cannot think of who have tried that on him.”

“But it has never happened like that on him before, is it is not?”

“Yes, you are right. George also said the same thing. We are having enemies of course but never a murder attempt made like this before.”

The serious expression is still continuing on the face of Viola. Viola is about to say something but then my aunt came there. She slumped beside us on the sofa. “It seems you both are in some serious discussion again.”

“Someone made a murder attempt on George.” Looking into her face Viola said.

“What?” my aunt startled immediately on hearing that. “Who did such type of a thing?”

“That is what not known. George could escape very narrowly. I gave a police complaint.” I explained everything to my aunt.

“Are you sure it is a murder attempt? It might be just someone mistakenly about to hit him.”

“No. George is saying it was deliberate. Someone indeed tried to kill him.”

“But for what and why?”

“It is difficult to say about that. You too know that we are having enough enemies. And they are having enough reasons to want to get rid of us.” I hissed out heavily.

“George is a very nice man. I don’t want anything happen to him. How he is now? I do go and see him.” my aunt said.

“In fine fettle. No damage happened to him but it seems he unnerved a lot because of that incident. So he has taken leave for this day.” I said.

“It is unnerving to me also.” My aunt is saying. “I agree murder attempts on you people may not be that much surprising. But I am listening something like this for the first time. Already we are all worrying enough about you.”

I am observing my aunt and Viola silently and it is my aunt who herself broke that silence. “Oh, Dazzle. Please be very careful. I am afraid that person may make an attempt on you this time.”

Suddenly I missed a heartbeat. I am not thinking in that angle until this moment. What is the surprise if that person makes an attempt to kill me this time?

“I shall be in my care aunt. Don’t worry much about this.” forcing a smile onto my lips I said.

Now we are discussing several matters. Suddenly my aunt stood up and said. “I have some other important works to attend. You both please talk.” I remained looking at my aunt while she is moving away from there.

“What you are thinking Dazzle? About that incident? Just calm yourself. Don’t worry too much about that.” Yawning heavily Viola said.

“Alright. Now you tell me about you and Williams.” Smiling pleasantly I am asking Viola. “How far both of your love has come?”

“Oh, what I can say? He is lazy and stubborn. I picked up a wrong man.”

“I simply do kill you if you leave him and pick someone else. He is my dearest brother and you  never entertain even an idea to abandon him.” I angrily said.

“I don’t do it like that. Okay. I have fixed for Williams as you have fixed for George. There is no chance at all that I do marry someone else.” I discern firmness in her voice quite clearly.

“I am feeling very happy on hearing that Ola. My brother is very innocent. You sure enjoy your life a lot with him as a life partner.”

“I am also hoping it like that.” Viola nodded her head. “But still I cannot understand what he is really doing or thinking. Even after we both are having intimacy like this between us, he is not opening his heart to me. He is not trying to share his feelings and thoughts with me.”

“Williams is indeed a very peculiar guy.” I said thoughtfully.

“You are absolutely right.” Viola nodded her head.
