Let we see one story on Saving Time .
The alarm clock rang . It was 6 a.m . Vidhya woke up . She brushed her teeth and bathed . While eating breakfast, she tried to remember what she had to da for the day . There was so much to be done.
" I have to go to school. I have to collect books from Neha's house. I must buy a gift for veena . I may have to make a card for her too . I must feed the street dogs . I have to complete my homework. Wait, am I forgetting something?? " She said aloud .
Mother heard vidhya talking to herself and said , " Vidhya " , What are you counting on your fingertips?? Tell me ! .
Vidhya held her hand up . She said , " I have so much to do today mom . I don't know where to start . I am already late for school. What if I don't have the time to collect books from Neha's house?? They are very important. Also , if I don't feed the dogs on time in a day ?? After all , there is very less time .
Mother walked over to vidhya . She hugged her to calm her down.
She said , vidhya the confusion is only in your head . The more you worry , the more difficult your day will become. Why don't you day properly? That will allow you to save time. It will help you manage all your work for today properly.
Vidhya looked at her mother and asked . What is scheduling?? How do I do it ? What I should do?
Mother went into living room and got a book and a pen .
Here take them . Please open the book , she said vidhya open the book not knowing what to do. Mother asked her to draw three columns.
Label the first one as work to be Done , the second one as time and third one as check . Vidhya frowned . She said , what is this ? What we were making ? . Mother smiled and said , " we are making a check- list vidhya " . She continued " you write down all the work you have to do today in the first column. Write down the time you need for each work in the second column. Think carefully about this one . Then , everytime you finish each work , put a tick ( ✓) mark against it in the check column . It's as a simple as that ."
Vidhya got really happy with this solution. She quickly wrote down all the tasks she had to do that day .
It was not as long as she had imagined it to be in her hand
Then , she thought over the time she would need for each work . She realized that some tasks would just take a few minutes.
" Neha's house is on my way back from school . I will not wait to chat with her . So , this work needs only a minute of my time," she said.
" How much time do I need to make card ? Let me think . I will take only an hour , not more ," she decided. " Feeding the strays is going to be a matter of ten minutes only ."
Mummy, making a check list really gives me a clear picture! " She said happily. I will be done with everything by eight in the evening. She clapped her hands excitedly. A check list had made it so simple. Vidhya completed all her tasks by eight that day . And that too with out any stress . She put tick marks as each work was completed
