“Whispers of Rebellion”
In the wedding bed, Ketki sat nervously on the bed, her hands twisting in her lap. When Gyan entered, a wave of fear ran through her, making her heart pound.
Gyan sat beside her gently and said,
“Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m not ready for married life yet. Can we… take things slowly?”
Ketki’s eyes widened in surprise, but relief washed over her. A small smile formed on her lips as she nodded.
Gyan continued softly,
“Okay… we can share the same bed, but I’ll need to keep some distance. You don’t mind, do you?”
Ketki smiled again, feeling her tension ease.
“Good. Have you had dinner?” he asked.
“Yes,” she murmured.
“I’m feeling really sleepy… so,” he yawned, his voice trailing off.
“Okay… good night,” Ketki replied, her heart fluttering.
Within moments, Gyan was asleep, his breathing deep and steady. Ketki watched him for a while, a gentle smile on her face, and finally lay down beside him, letting herself drift into sleep as well.
......
The next day, Ketki was busy performing rituals under the watchful eyes of her mother-in-law, Madhvi. Madhvi guided her patiently, and Ketki followed each instruction carefully. Slowly, she realized that this family wasn’t as intimidating as she had imagined. She began to relax, immersing herself in the rituals.
Suddenly, a commotion broke out—a man had collapsed to the floor. Gyan rushed forward, grabbing him by the arm.
“How dare you do this? You tricked me! You have to—”
“Gyan!” a sharp voice cut through the room.
Madhvi glared at him with anger.
“Your newlywed wife is performing rituals, and you are creating this chaos? Call the doctor—now!”
“But Mother—” Gyan tried to protest.
Madhvi’s voice boomed.
“Your wife just arrived! I won’t tolerate any mishaps on her first day here. Call the doctor, understood?”
Gyan glanced at Ketki. She was calmly observing the injured man. Slowly, some attendants carried him away. As Gyan turned, he noticed Ketki smiling faintly. Before he could react, she dashed to the door—Kishori was standing there.
The sisters embraced tightly, tears and smiles mingling. Ketki pulled her inside.
“I came for the padfere rasm,” Kishori said cheerfully. “We don’t have a brother, so I came to take Ketki Di.”
Madhvi smiled warmly.
“Oh, sure. But some rituals are still ongoing. After that, you can bring Ketki out.”
Ketki returned to the ceremony, her hands steady. Madhvi whispered to her,
“I’m very glad you’re going to marry my nephew, Shakti Singh. I’m sure you two will be a wonderful match, just like Gyan and I.”
Ketki’s hands froze for a moment, and she nodded. Kishori smiled softly.
“Yes, Aunty.”
Once the rituals were over, Ketki and Kishori stepped out to leave the mansion. Gyan was instructing the driver for their ride.
Kishori quickly said,“No, thank you! We’ll go ourselves.”
Ketki chuckled, shaking her head. “No, we’ll go in this car. Thank you.”
Gyan smiled, and Kishori sighed inwardly. She didn’t want to sit, but she also couldn’t disobey her elder sister’s wishes.
.....
Ketki sat quietly, observing the family. Everyone seemed so well-behaved, and Manan and Vishakha were smiling happily. Yet, Kishori couldn’t bring herself to believe it.
Breaking the silence, Ketki said,
“For how many days are you staying here? Your studies will suffer.”
Kishori replied calmly,
“I’ve dropped college. I don’t want to study anymore.”
Uncle’s face turned pale with shock.
“What did you say? Say that again!”
Kishori stood confidently, her eyes unwavering.
“Come on! I’m going to be the daughter-in-law of the richest family. Now what’s the benefit of studying?”
Her uncle raised his hand, about to slap her, but aunty quickly intervened.
“Oh dear! What are you saying? How can you—”
Uncle shouted, his voice trembling with anger,
“Your father wished that you would be educated, independent, and successful. And now you’re thinking of dropping college?!”
Aunty tried to calm the situation.
“I’ll talk to her. Please, calm down.”
Kishori’s confidence didn’t waver.
“Uncle, after this marriage, I’ll be powerful, successful, and rich.”
With that, she turned and walked to her room, closing the door firmly behind her.
Uncle continued shouting from downstairs,
“Our conversation isn’t over! Come down now!”
......
A soft voice came from the doorway.
“What happened? Is everything fine?”
Gyan stood there, concern on his face.
Uncle quickly turned his face away, trying to hide his anger.
Ketki forced a smile and replied,
“Actually… Kishori got very low marks in her exams. So…”
Gyan nodded thoughtfully.
“Oh, that’s not good. But no problem. The wedding is over. Now she can go back and focus on her studies.”
Everyone smiled politely, hiding their true feelings.
Ketki gave a small nod and left the room with Gyan, leaving the uncle fuming silently and the house echoing with fake calm.
......
Manav sat alone in the empty room, staring at Kishori’s transfer form.
Aakash walked in, raising an eyebrow.
“You… you canceled her TC form?”
Manav shook his head calmly.
“No. I just put it on hold. I only want to understand the reason first.”
Aakash leaned closer, frowning.
“Don’t you think you’re misusing the power of being a trustee parent?”
Manav’s eyes softened, filled with quiet determination.
“No. I’m not using power… I’m using the power of my love.”
