Eye-Care Technology: How Technology Is Changing Eye Health
Modern eye care is becoming more precise with the help of advanced imaging, digital tools and artificial intelligence.
Today, technologies such as OCT, OCT-A, retinal imaging, visual-field testing and AI-assisted screening can help eye-care professionals examine the eye in greater detail and monitor changes over time. OCT, for example, can provide detailed cross-sectional images of retinal layers, while OCT-A can visualize retinal and choroidal blood vessels without the need for dye injection.
Artificial intelligence is also becoming an important part of ophthalmology. AI systems can assist with analysing retinal images and supporting screening for conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, while research is expanding toward glaucoma, retinal diseases and other areas. However, AI remains a support tool and does not replace clinical examination and professional judgement.
Dr. Anchal Gupta’s Thought
“Technology can help us see more, measure more and detect changes earlier—but the right technology becomes meaningful only when it is combined with clinical expertise and patient-centred care.”

The bigger message
Technology is not about replacing the eye-care professional. It is about helping doctors make informed decisions, monitor disease more accurately and extend access to eye care.
Eye Care + Technology + Human Expertise = Better-informed Eye Care
