Pallav was trying to sleep on the bed when Jayanthi entered into that room and switched onto the light. He looked at her irritatingly. For more than two years they were not sleeping in the same room. For more than five years they did not copulate at all. They did not know why but when they could not get a child even after fifteen years or so of marriage too, and even after they had tried all the treatments and medicines, they got an aversion towards sex, especially to Jayanthi and they had forgotten about it completely. Once Pallav had known his wife’s dislike towards sex he too stopped approaching her for it.
She slowly approached the bed and sat on the edge of it. A small smile came on to her lips.
“I am feeling sleepy. If you too want to sleep with me, I have no objection.” Closing his eyes as he could not bear the lighting then, Pallav said.
She came near to the bed and sat on that. “I have come here for more than that.” Placing her hand on his shoulder Jayanthi said.
Pallav opened his eyes and looked into her face. A small smile widened his lips. “Really?” he said. “I thought that you have lost your interest completely on that.”
“I got it again.” She said. Her cheeks blushed with shame. “For children”
“But what would be the use? We cannot get children. It has been proved to us in all respects.” There was depression in him. He remembered Malathi. How Jayanthi would feel and react if she knew about that, he felt fear thinking like that.
“There is no loss in trying.” The small hope in her voice surprised him. “Don’t forget that doctors said that there is no fault in either of us and we can get children at anytime.”
“But you have already crossed forty. Is it is advisable to you to bear children now?”
“There are women who gave birth to children at their fifties also.” Jayanthi smiled. “My mother reached almost fifty when she gave birth to Sukanya.”
“Alright then. I have no objection.” He sat up and looked into her eyes.
He sat on the bed and smiled again. He started observing his wife in a different way. She decorated herself differently on this day. She and her sister both were beautiful. Sukanya resembled mostly her father while inheriting some of the glamorous features of her mother. Jayanthi was fully like her mother. She did not inherit the tallness of her father like Sukanya did. Even Jayanthi was not as much glamorous as Sukanya, she too was beautiful. She had got enough height and at the age of above forty as well the youth was still apparent in her and he knew how much he had enjoyed sex with her in those days. Still she was appearing beautiful to him. Her body did not get wrinkles on it. Her breasts were sagged a little but she was still luring.
Then it started between them, continued for a considerable period and came to an end. They both enjoyed it a lot even they did it only for a child’s sake.
“I am sorry I cannot give you a child so far” while they were relaxing themselves side by side, Jayanthi said.
“Why you are thinking that the deficiency is in you? It may be in me also.” Thinking about his failure with Malathi, Pallav said. Once again he felt fear thinking how Jayanthi would react if she knew about it.
“No, I am not thinking like that. In fact doctors said that there is no fault with us to not to have children. But…………” Jayanthi tried to say something more.
“Is it is necessary between us now?” Pallav abruptly interrupted her. “We are not childless. So far we have got two sons, Madan and Vineet. Are not they enough to us?” he asked her looking into her eyes with a serious expressin on his face.
“More than enough” she smiled happily. “I am really feeling happy thinking them both as my sons and they are also always behaving like that. But why sometimes I am feeling so much for my own children I cannot say.”
‘That means you are also thinking in the same way I am. The only difference is you are not doing in the way I am doing’ Pallav thught. “It is natural.” Pallav nodded his head. “Anyhow sometimes we may try like this. If we are very much lucky we may have one.”
“Alright, I agree with you.” Jayanthi yawned heavily and said. She could not remain awaken anymore after that. Pallav also did not know when he had fallen asleep.

Sukanya was indeed in a dilemma and it had started a long time back and she could not know what to do. Particularly because of her mother, as she has to be mostly with her, she thought that she should be scornful towards those who are poor and uneducated, as her mother was. Her mother strongly guided her so. She said that they should maintain distance from the poor and riffraff as they were very rich family. So she behaved like that thinking as if it was an obligation on her part and she used to have some sadistic pleasure in it as her mother has. Even she herself has some pleasure also, on those occasions when she had hurt the feelings of Vineet particularly, she did so only because she thought she had to do so. It was mostly because of her mother’s influence. Only because of her observation of her mother’s treating other poor people in such an insulting and derogative way. It was continued like that for a long time.
But after her sister scolded her so and quarreled with her mother for her insulting and hurting Vineet, Sukanya started analyzing the situation rather than hating her sister. In no time she realized that the mistake was on her part. After observing minutely the other people as well she came to understand that the way her mother was behaving was quite bad and she should not follow her so.
But she never had thought to develop any fascination towards Vineet. She indeed wanted to limit her feelings towards him only in a sympathetic and apologetic way as she had insulted him so in the past. She wanted to ask apology to him at the first opportunity she would get with him. But her heart started working in the different direction of her intentions. It was strongly attracted towards Vineet and Sukanya could not understand why it was so. It was very troublesome to her when her heart was feeling so happier at the thought of Vineet. Why it should feel happy merely at the thought of Vineet? He did not even complete his tenth class. He was living on the mercy of Madan’s family. It was wrong to insult him or treat him derogatively but there was no necessity to love him or develop affection towards him. But why her heart was longing for him that much? All her efforts to keep her heart free of him went in vain.
It was even more irritating to her as her heart became more and more eager to see him as the time for his arrival to home nearing. Why could not she control herself and keep her heart not to be attracted towards him? Despite being a psychologist she could not understand herself and it was even more irritating to her. Was she failed as a psychologist? If it were so would she get success as a psychologist when she could not understand her psychology itself? She closed her eyes helplessly.
After hearing whatever Susmitha said and after the lengthy discussions and promises, she had come into her sister’s room and slept on the bed there. Her sister said a room would be made for her by the night time and to take rest in her room until then. In fact she wanted to think deeply about Susmitha and her problem but her mind was going on to Vineet and however hard she was trying it was not coming back from him.
She had seen him eight years or so back and he was aged fourteen years or so then. But he was manly with strong body and rough features then itself. His eyes were small but active and he did not prefer his hair to be neatly combed. She was trying to imagine how his appearance would be now? Would he be so now too, with uncombed hair and with those rough hewed features? How he would react on seeing her? She could still remember his face when she insulted him so. There was only hurt in his eyes and face and no hate at all towards her. Or just he concealed the anger and expressed only anguish and hurt? Her heart pinched with pity towards him when it remembered those incidents.
As her thoughts were moving like that in her she unknowingly slipped herself into sleep. When she woke up it was completely dark and she heard the voice of Vineet. As she expected, her heart at once leaped with joy. She at once wanted to run to him, hug and kiss him and tell him how much she was in love with him. With a difficulty she put herself under control. She slowly got off from the bed and came out of the room.
“Vineet, how do you do?” she heard her voice strange. There was a small shivering while she was saying that.
Vineet startled and instantly turned towards her. She felt troublesome and uneasy to keep her sight level with his. But she felt happier and relaxed as there was no animosity in it. There was only friendliness and welcome in them.
“Sukanya…fine…of course…when did you have come? It is really very happy to all of us that you have come to our home after a long time.” His happiness was not fake. Was he as well was waiting for her as she was for him, she wondered.
“In the morning itself.” She smiled. Why her heart was filled with this much of happiness? She wondered once again. Her eyes were crazily observing him from top to bottom without her intention. He was just in the way her mind imagined all this time. Tall, handsome and with a well built body.
“Now is dinner time. We may better talk while eating our dinner.” Pallav said with a smile. What was going in between Sukanya and Vineet was surprising to him. Considering the past incidents, he did not expect at all this type of a change in Sukanya.
“It seems my husband is suffering hungrier than all of us. Better we move into the kitchen.” Walking into the kitchen Jayanthi said.

Vineet was quite unsettled then. He was disturbed completely. In fact he was feeling uneasy from the moment he came to know that Sukanya was coming to their house. He was prepared mentally how to behave with her. He had decided to be reserved with her and not to talk anything unnecessarily. If she again tried to insult him then the other people were there to deal with it.
But the way she looked at him and the way she talked with him shook him completely. Her eyes conveyed the message of her heart. By the way she looked at him it could be said that she was interested in him totally. But why that interest? He certainly knew that she wanted to say something more. Only she could not get the chance. Before moving away from that place she looked at him with a clear message in her eyes. It was an entreaty, prayer. There was no mistakening in it. But why? It was appearing quite illogical. There was nothing special in him that she would feel love towards him.
